U-Pick Blueberries at LoCA Blueberry Farm | Thursday – Sunday | 8 am – 1 pm

Blueberry season is happening right now and this is one of those Lodi things that's easy to put off until it's gone. LoCA Blueberry Farm is a family-owned u-pick operation right here in town, open Thursday through Sunday through mid-June, and it is exactly the kind of low-key summer morning that kids remember. You show up, grab a bucket, head into the field, and pick your own — three varieties of blueberries depending on where you are in the season. They minimize pesticide use, the berries are fresh off the bush, and the whole thing is done by early afternoon. U-pick runs $5 per pound, or $6.30 per pound if you'd rather grab a pre-picked bag on your way out. Food trucks rotate through on select weekends too — Nana Bears Mini Doughnuts and Hula Shave Ice have both been on the schedule this season, so check their Facebook page for the latest. Bring hats, sunscreen, water, and closed-toe shoes. No dogs, no glass in the field.

Open Mic at the Square | Friday, June 5 | 7 pm

If you want a low-key Friday night downtown with no cover and no plan required, this is it. The City of Lodi hosts Open Mic at the Square monthly, and it's exactly what it sounds like — local performers, an outdoor stage, and a crowd that's happy just to be there. You never quite know what you're going to get, and that's kind of the whole point. Bring a chair, grab dinner somewhere nearby first, and let the night unfold.

Free to attend. Doors wide open.

📍 Hutchins Street Square: 125 S Hutchins St, Lodi, CA 95240

Friday Night Casting Session | Friday, June 5 | 5 pm – 7 pm

This one's for the fly fishing crowd, and if you've been curious about the sport, this is actually a solid entry point. The Delta Fly Fishers bring their casting sessions to the lawn at Hutchins Square on the first Friday of the month, and it's as low-pressure as it gets. You can watch, ask questions, or pick up a rod yourself. It's free, it's outside, and it's a genuinely cool thing happening right in the middle of town.

Free. All skill levels welcome.

Sunset Sippin' at Bokisch Vineyards | Friday, June 5 | 6 pm – 9 pm

Bokisch does this every Friday and it still delivers every time. Doors open at 5:30 pm, music starts at 6, and you're looking at golden-hour vineyard views with a glass of Spanish-style wine in hand. Seating is first come, first served, so get there a little early if you want a good spot. Charcuterie is available on-site, and a different food vendor is usually there each week. Wine Club members get priority access and reserved seating at a discount. Gazebo seating for up to 10 is available if you want to lock in something private.

It's outdoors, it's beautiful, and it's the kind of outing where everyone ends up staying longer than planned.

The French Club – July 2026 Classes Now Open for Sign-Up | Ongoing

If your kid has ever shown any curiosity about French and you weren't sure where to start, this is a low-pressure way in. The French Club is a small-group program for kids ages 5 to 14, built around games, conversation, stories, and music rather than sitting through traditional lessons. It's run by a native French speaker with over 15 years of experience in education and youth programs, and the whole point is getting kids comfortable actually using the language, not just memorizing it. July 2026 classes are open for registration now at thefrenchclub.durable.site.

OEG Summer Camp | Monday – Friday, Now through July 23 | 7 am – 6 pm

If you have a teen between 12 and 16 and summer just got a lot longer, this one's worth knowing about. The City of Lodi's OEG Summer Camp runs daily at Legion Park's Lee Jones Building and is completely free — full days, structured activities, swimming, STEM projects, tie-dye, arts and crafts, outdoor sports, life skills from guest speakers, and field trips to places like Great America and Discovery Kingdom (those do have optional fees). It's a real program run by Parks and Rec, not a drop-and-hope situation, and spots are capped at 30 so it doesn't get out of hand. Registration is in person only at 230 W Elm St — internet sign-up isn't available for this one.

Desiree Newman Turned Her Hardest Years Into a Jar of Pickles, and Lodi Showed Up for It

Desiree Newman is an Air Force veteran who was on active duty when September 11 happened, spent the years that followed pushing herself and her unit to the edge of what they could handle, and left the military in 2010 feeling scared, alone, and unsure of what came next. She moved back to Lodi, into her parents' house, because it was the only place that felt safe. And one day she started slicing vegetables and following her grandparents' pickling recipes, not because it was a business plan, but because it was the only thing that helped. She ended up with more canned goods than she knew what to do with, so she started giving them away. That was the beginning.

Last Tuesday, the Lodi Chamber of Commerce held an official ribbon-cutting for PTSD Pickling at Parkwest Casino, the same place where friends and casino staff first told Desiree she needed to sell this stuff. Sixteen years after she came home, she has a licensed business, a weekly booth at the Lodi Certified Farmers Market every Thursday through August 27, and products on shelves at Java Stop and House of Coffees right here in town. The name isn't a marketing gimmick. It's the whole truth of how she got here, and she's not shy about it.

Go find her at the farmers market on a Thursday and grab a jar.
