Lodi Locals

Good morning, Lodi!!

Summer hit different this week. The kind of week where the calendar fills up before you even try, and somehow every single thing on it sounds like a good time. We have got a comedy night at one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in San Joaquin County, an art hop taking over Veterans Plaza downtown, trivia at a winery out in Acampo on Friday night, and summer camps at Impact Sports Center that are open and enrolling right now for your kids.

This is the Lodi I love. The one where you can laugh until your face hurts on a Saturday night, watch your kid flip across a gym floor on a Tuesday morning, find a piece of local art you did not know you needed, and argue about pop culture trivia with a glass of Zinfandel in your hand on a Friday.

All in the same week. All within about 15 minutes of wherever you are sitting right now!

Lets get into it.

Lodi Arts Center

Lodi Art Hop | Saturday, June 13 | 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

If you’re already planning a slow Saturday morning downtown, maybe a coffee from one of the spots on Pine Street and something good to eat, just keep walking because Veterans Plaza is about to be worth your whole afternoon.

The Lodi Art Hop is back this Saturday and honestly it’s one of my favorite things we do as a town. 10 plus local artists will be set up showing and selling their work , there’s live music, art making activities for all ages, and face painting , and the whole thing is completely free. It’s put on by the Lodi Arts Foundation in partnership with the Lodi Arts Commission and the City of Lodi , and they do it right every single time.

What I love most is that it doesn’t stop at the park. After you wander the outdoor gallery you can hop over to partner exhibits at Double Dip Gallery, the Lodi Community Art Center, Ruby’s Bakery, and the Lodi Library for even more local art. So grab your coffee, bring the kids, and just let the morning take you wherever it goes down Pine Street.

This is the kind of Saturday that costs nothing and still feels full. See you out there.

ChillaxZin at Jeremy Wine Co. Lockeford | Saturday, June 13 | 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm

If you have never taken the drive out to Jeremy Wine Co.'s Lockeford location, this Saturday is your sign.

ChillaxZin is their laid-back afternoon event built around one surprisingly great idea: chilled red wine.

Specifically, Zinfandel. Served slightly chilled, which sounds wrong until you try it on a warm June afternoon and suddenly it all makes sense.

The event runs noon to 4:00 pm and it is completely free to attend. There will be live music and a food truck on site, and the kind of easy Saturday afternoon energy that Lockeford does better than almost anywhere else around here.

Jeremy and Choral started this winery in 2010 after leaving behind a design career, and the whole place has that same intentional, personal feeling.

The barrel room has panoramic vineyard views and the property is built for exactly this: lingering, tasting, and not being in any hurry at all. Take the country drive. You will not regret it.

Michael David Winery

Comedylicious at Bare Ranch | Saturday, June 13 | Doors 6:00 pm | Show 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

BARE RANCH BY MICHAEL DAVID WINERY | 21+ | TICKETS $35 PUBLIC / $30 CLUB

Okay hear me out. If you have been on the fence about a second date, this is your litmus test. Nothing cuts through small talk faster than finding out if someone actually has a sense of humor.

Bare Ranch, Michael David wine in hand, professional comedians doing the heavy lifting. You will know by intermission. This month's headliner is Chicago Steve Barkley, a 50-year comedy veteran who has appeared on HBO,

Showtime, and A&E;, and is a $10,000 winner on ABC's America's Funniest People. The man has shared stages with Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Jay Leno, and Dana Carvey, so yes, he knows what he is doing.

Laughter truly is the best medicine, and a glass of Zinfandel does not hurt either.

Two food trucks will be on site to keep everyone fed: A Movable Feast, Lodi's own beloved truck known for creative sandwiches, garlic fries, and out-of-the-box flavor combinations, and Pizzeria Fiamma, bringing their wood-fired pies fresh to the vineyard. Between the wine, the food, and a comedian with half a century of material, there is genuinely no excuse to stay home.

Bare Ranch is a historic 1903 Craftsman estate on 180 acres of vineyard with a wandering stream, botanical garden, and a stonewall lined lawn that makes the whole thing feel like it could not possibly exist 10 minutes from downtown Lodi. And yet here we are. Seating is provided, show runs 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, adult content and language throughout. Grab tickets before they sell out because this one always does!

Trivia Night at m2 Wines | Friday, June 12 | 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

21+ EVENT

I love a good Friday night that has a little more going on than just sitting at a bar. This Friday m2 Wines is hosting Trivia Night out at their tasting room on Peltier Road in Acampo, and it is exactly the kind of wrap-up energy our whole town needs going into the weekend.

m2 has been doing things their own way since 2004. No bocce ball courts, no sculptures, just wine and the kind of focused artisan approach that makes every bottle worth paying attention to.

Their tasting room sits in the middle of vineyard land with outdoor patios and a lawn that is made for a night like this. Round up your team, bring your best useless knowledge, and make a night of it. m2 pours bold Zinfandels, Rhone varietals, and Napa Cabernet, so there is plenty to sip while you argue about which year something happened. 21 plus, and worth every minute of the drive.

Community Spotlight

Every once in a while a business opens in this town that makes me think, we needed that. Two Twenty Academy is one of those. A brand new cosmetology school right here on Kettleman Lane, built from scratch by a Lodi local who spent over two decades behind the chair and decided she wanted to change what beauty education looks like in this community. If you have ever thought about a career in cosmetology or esthetics, or if you know someone who has, keep reading. This one is worth your full attention.

Celena Phelan fell in love with hair when she was 12 years old. Not just the look of it but the feeling it gave people. The confidence. The transformation. The way someone carries themselves differently when they feel good about how they look. That spark turned into a career, and that career turned into something she could never have fully planned for. After graduating cosmetology school, Celena went overseas to train with Vidal Sassoon and Toni and Guy. She came home with an entirely different understanding of what this industry could be. She opened her own salon. She became a mother, and discovered that cosmetology gave her something most careers never do: the flexibility to build a life she actually wanted. She worked a few days a week, stayed present for her family, and kept a career she was genuinely proud of. She then expanded into a wig and topper boutique to serve women experiencing hair loss, and all along the way she kept mentoring newer stylists coming up behind her.

And every time she did, she saw the same thing.

"So many new stylists entering the industry feeling unprepared, lacking confidence, unsure of how to truly succeed in a real salon environment. And I knew something had to change." - Celena Phelan, Founder

So she built the school she wished had existed. Two Twenty Academy opened right here in Lodi at 1110 W. Kettleman Lane, backed by over 22 years of real industry experience and a deep frustration with the gap between what cosmetology schools traditionally teach and what actually prepares someone for a modern salon.

Her husband JC, who she has been with since she was 15, brought his background in management, entrepreneurship, and finance to help turn the vision into a real, functioning school. He worked through the state licensing process, handled the buildout himself, and helped structure a business that is built to last. What they created together is not just another cosmetology school. It is a small-group, hands-on training environment designed to produce stylists who are genuinely ready for day one in a real salon.

The 1,000-hour program covers hair cutting, coloring, and styling, skin, nails, client experience, and real-world business development. Classes run in quarterly cohorts so you train alongside a focused group of people, not in a packed room where you get lost in the crowd.
