Lodi Locals
Good morning, Lodi!!
Monday is here and so is summer (we are sweating and in need of some good Agua fresca). We are heading into a week of sunshine and 90s, which means the library is moving storytime to the park, the farmers market is doing its thing on Thursday, and there is no shortage of reasons to get out of the house.
Let’s get into it!

Rooted Lounge
Open Mic Night at Rooted Lounge | Saturday, June 20th | 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
If you haven’t been to Rooted Lounge yet, this is your sign to finally go. The spot has been quietly becoming one of downtown Lodi’s coolest little corners since it opened, and they’re hosting an open mic night on June 20th that honestly sounds like such a fun way to spend a Saturday.
The vibe at Rooted Lounge is hard to explain but easy to love. It’s described as an “urban oasis” and I think that actually nails it. It’s stylish without being pretentious, relaxed without being boring, and the whole place is built around getting people together. Think curated drinks, great atmosphere, and the kind of energy that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.
Open mic nights there are the perfect format for a venue like this. Whether you’ve got something you’ve been dying to perform or you just want to sit back and watch what Lodi’s got, it’s one of those nights that tends to surprise you. Show up for the music, stay for the conversation.

Lodi Boathouse
Sunset Paddle on the Mokelumne River | Friday, June 12 | 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
If there’s a better way to spend a Friday evening in Lodi, I haven’t found it yet. The Lodi Boathouse is running their Sunset Paddle on June 12th and this is exactly the kind of thing we should all be doing more of in the summer.
You’ll launch from the boathouse at Lodi Lake and glide down the Mokelumne River right as the sky starts doing its thing. We’re talking that golden hour melting into full color, reflected on the water while you just float through it. It’s one of those evenings that feels completely separate from real life. The paddle is guided, runs about 90 minutes, and is open to all skill levels. Everything you need is included: kayak, paddle, and a life jacket.
Pricing is $55 per person with rental equipment, $22 if you’re bringing your own, and $18 for kids 10 and under. Plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early so everyone can get launched on time. Book through the Lodi Boathouse and if you need to cancel, call (209) 471-5988 more than 24 hours ahead for a full refund.

WOO GIRL! Cellars
Wine & Witness: A Live True Crime Podcast featuring Crime with Kylie | Thursday, July 2nd | 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
This one is personal to me, so I’m going to be honest with you about it.
On July 2nd, Crime with Kylie is hosting a live podcast night out on the Tasting Room Lawn at WOO GIRL! Cellars in Acampo, and I genuinely cannot think of a better combination than true crime and rosé on a summer evening. The event is called Wine and Witness, and if you know Kylie’s content at all, you already know this is going to be a night worth showing up for.
But here’s what makes this one different. We partnered with a real family to bring their case to the room. This is an ongoing case that hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves, and the family reached out because they want people to know. This is not a retelling for entertainment. It’s a case that needs to be heard, and Lodi is where it’s going to be heard first.
So you’ll be outside under the summer sky at one of the most beautiful estates in wine country, sipping on some genuinely stunning rosé, while Kylie walks the room through a real story that matters. There’s also a true crime trivia game on the lineup, which means even if you’re a first time listener, you’ll fit right in.
WOO GIRL! Cellars was founded by winemaker Vivian Valenzuela and it is exactly the kind of place this event belongs. Female founded, award winning, and built around the idea that the right people in the right room create something worth remembering. That is exactly what July 2nd is shaping up to be.
Tickets are limited for this one. Grab yours now

Meet The Maker
Spoon Rest Workshop at Meet the Maker | Saturday, June 13 | 1:00 pm
This one is for my people who love a functional piece of handmade art in their kitchen. Meet the Maker is hosting a Spoon Rest Workshop on Saturday the 13th and honestly it sounds like such a good afternoon.
The studio will be demonstrating how to make the “folded napkin” style spoon rest out of clay, but you’re totally welcome to freestyle it if you have a vision of your own. No experience needed at all, just show up ready to have fun and get your hands a little dirty. Meet the Maker is one of those spots in Lodi that feels genuinely special, a ceramics studio where owner Michelle and her team make you feel like you’re just hanging out with friends while you create something you’ll actually use every day.
Tickets are $40 per person. Grab your spot at lodiceramics.com before it fills up.

Storytime in the Park | Tuesdays, June 9 through July 28 | 10:30 am
This one is genuinely perfect for the little ones and honestly kind of perfect for the parents too. The Lodi Public Library is moving its weekly Storytime outside for the summer, and the spot they picked is a good one.
Every Tuesday morning from June 9 through July 28, Storytime in the Park happens at Emerson Park at 10:30 am. The program is geared toward kids ages 0 to 5 and runs about 30 minutes, with stories, songs, and some good old-fashioned toddler socializing. The library’s words for it: bring a blanket and good cheer. That feels right.
Emerson Park has a playground, shaded picnic tables, and restrooms on site, so it is easy to turn it into a real morning out. Show up a little early, let the kids run around, do Storytime, let them run around some more. It costs nothing, there is no signup required, and it happens every single Tuesday through the end of July.
If your mornings have been feeling a little unstructured now that school is out, this is a really nice anchor to add to the week.
📍 Emerson Park, 11 N. Hutchins Street, Lodi, CA 95240

Kylie Talamantez
If you live in Lodi and you have not been to Ruby’s on a Saturday morning, you already know someone who has. It is hard to miss the line that spills out the door onto Church Street most days of the week, and harder still to walk past without wondering what is going on in there.
What is going on is Fausto and Lynn Echeverria, and they have been at it since 2019.
Lynn grew up in the restaurant business, the daughter of parents who ran a restaurant in Livermore for over two decades. When that chapter closed, she headed to San Francisco for culinary school, landed an externship at a well-known bakery, and met Fausto there. He started as a dishwasher and worked his way up to leading the croissant department across six Bay Area locations. Together they spent 14 years mastering their craft before deciding it was time to bring something special closer to home. They found a vacant building on Church Street, and what they built in its place has become one of Lodi’s most beloved gathering spots.

Walk in and you feel it immediately. Natural light, small flower vases, clean lines, local art on the walls. It is the kind of space that slows you down a little. And then you see the pastry case, and you stop completely.
Fausto is in the kitchen at 3:30 every morning. Every single pastry on that shelf was made that day and will not be there tomorrow. The Sugar Bun, with its caramelized butter crust and orange zest, the Ham and Cheese Croissant with Framani Spanish Ham and Gruyere melted into flaky, tender dough, the almond croissant, the quiche, the seasonal cakes. Their philosophy is simple and they stick to it: basic pastries, thoughtful ingredients, technique, patience, and care.
But what really makes Ruby’s what it is goes beyond the food. The staff shout a greeting at you when you walk in and say goodbye when you leave. They know regulars by name. The line moves faster than you expect. Business meetings happen at the corner tables. Friends catch up over lattes. Families show up together on Sunday mornings. It is genuinely one of those places where Lodi feels like Lodi, where the same faces keep showing up because the coffee is good and the people are better.
All syrups are made in house. The espresso is pulled by real baristas on real machines. And the avocado toast has its own loyal following.
