Teen Kayaking Adventure at Lodi Lake | Thursday, June 25th | 10:30 am

Finally, an event made just for teens. The Natural Path Cooperative is hosting a paddle down the Mokelumne River, and its exactly the kind of low key, get outside hangout we need to see more of around here. Honestly, Lodi could use more third spaces for teenagers, places to just exist with friends that are not the Walmart parking lot, the In & Out parking lot, or a phone screen, so seeing something like this pop up is a win.

Teens can bring their own kayak or rent one from the Lodi Boathouse, with single and tandem options available. Parent chaperones are welcome if your teen wants company, or if you just want to come paddle along. Reservations run 25 dollars and you can book through the Lodi Boathouse website, just be sure to let the hosts know once you have reserved your spot.

Delta Fly Fishers Inc Facebook

Open Fly Tying Session | Wednesday, June 24th | 6:00 to 8:30 pm

If you have ever wanted to get into fly fishing or you already tie your own flies and just want some company while doing it, this one is for you. The Delta Fly Fishers meet up every fourth Wednesday at the Nature Center for a relaxed, no host fly tying session. Its a chance to sit down with fellow members, swap the latest fishing stories, and tie alongside people who actually know what they are doing.

Bob Fujimura will be sharing another fly of the month pattern, so even if you show up with zero flies tied in your life, there is something to learn. The early part of the evening is light enough outside that you can practice your fly casting instead if that sounds more fun. Beginners are genuinely encouraged to come, and if you would like one on one instruction or want to borrow some of the club’s equipment, just reach out to Bob at mailto:[email protected] at least 48 hours ahead. He can also walk you through getting in and out of the park gates.

Farmers Market at Michael David Winery | Wednesday, June 24th | 5:00 to 8:00 pm

If you caught the last one, you already know this is worth putting on the calendar again. Michael David Winery’s farmers market is back, and last time around it did not disappoint. There were custom hats to make, baskets of fresh cherries that practically begged to be eaten on the spot, and gorgeous spreads from Delicious Boards LLC that made grazing feel like an event in itself.

Odyssey Coffee Company was pouring, plus a handful of other local vendors that made it easy to lose track of time wandering the rows. Add in Michael David’s wine right there to sip while you shop, and you have got yourself a really solid Wednesday evening plan. Bring some cash, bring an appetite, and plan to leave with more than you intended to buy.

“Ramen Bowl” Container Workshop | Wednesday, June 24th | 4:00 pm

This one is for anyone who loves ramen, which is basically everyone in my house. Meet the Maker is hosting a ceramics workshop where you build your own ramen bowl from clay, then top it with a lid piled high with clay noodles and whatever toppings you want to dream up, all while painting as you go. It is genuinely great for all ages, so this is one of those rare outings that works whether you are bringing kids, teens, or just want a low pressure creative night for yourself.

Once everything is fired and ready, the bowl makes a fun little catch all for trinkets, candy, or snacks on a shelf at home. Tickets are 40 dollars.

Side note, has anyone made it out to Ramen 101 in Stockton yet? I know it is technically not Lodi, but we still do not have a true ramen spot of our own here in town, and honestly, fingers crossed that changes soon.

🏡 Family & Kids Corner

Hutchins Street Square

Music in the Park featuring Whiskey Kiss | Wednesday, June 24th | 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Here is an easy one for the whole family. Hutchins Street Square is hosting Music in the Park, free live music outside under the open sky, and this week it is Whiskey Kiss bringing a mix of country, classic rock, and pop that will have everyone from the grandparents to the kids singing along.

It is all ages welcome, so let the kids run around on the grass while you relax with a chair and some good music. There will be food trucks on site if you want to grab dinner there, or pack a picnic and make a real evening of it. Either way, this is a nice low key option for a Wednesday night that does not require much planning, just show up, find a spot on the lawn, and let the night unfold.

There’s a building most of us drive past without thinking twice about, but it holds over a hundred years of Lodi history inside it. The Lodi Canning Company was started back in 1917 by Dr. T.O. Goeres, and it stayed in his family for three generations after that. Bob Goeres, the third generation owner, ran the company alongside his father Ted before the business was sold in 2021 . The new owners came from the sales and marketing side of canned goods rather than production, so Bob made sure all 24 employees were able to stay on through the transition .

What gets me about this story is the loyalty running through it. The company had already locked in contracts with local growers to supply peas and sweet corn for the 2021 season, and the new owners agreed to honor those grower contracts with no plans to change the product line . The Lodi Canning Company actually celebrated its centennial back in 2018 , which means generations of Lodi families grew up with this place quietly running in the background of everyday life.

Even though the Goeres family is no longer at the helm, the canning company’s story is a piece of Lodi I think deserves to be remembered. As Bob put it himself, the plan was to keep functioning as normal and to keep reaping the bounty of the community, from the crops being grown to the pool of employees, sixteen year olds all the way up to retirees . That is about as Lodi as it gets.

Double Dip Gallery

Whoa! Workshops at Double Dip Gallery | Tuesday, June 23rd | 5:30 to 7:00 pm

This is one of those events that just feels good to show up to. Whoa! Workshops happens monthly at Double Dip Gallery, and the whole idea is simple, you get a dedicated project, a room full of supplies, and two hours to make something that is entirely yours. No paint by numbers, no instructions to follow step by step, just your own creativity with as much or as little guidance as you want.

And yes, there is a free scoop of ice cream waiting for you when you are done, because apparently creativity and ice cream just go together. No experience needed and zero expectations either, so whether you consider yourself artsy or have not picked up a paintbrush since grade school, this one is for you.
