It’s almost July, Lodi! By Saturday, there will be fireworks, hot dogs, and people trying to avoid drones (if you know, you know).

If you are looking for a low key way to kick off the holiday weekend, I have got you. Oak Ridge Winery is keeping their Summer Sounds series going with She Calls Him Wilson taking the stage on July 3rd.
Grab your friends, grab the family, and post up under the trees with a glass of something good in hand. There is no cover charge, the wine is award winning, and the music is the kind that makes you want to stay way longer than you planned. Whether you have been coming to these every week or this is your first time checking it out, it is a vibe.
Pull up early if you want a good spot, because afternoons at Oak Ridge fill in fast once word gets out.

Jessie’s Grove Winery
Celebrate 4th of July ft. Bananafish | Saturday, July 4th | 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Nothing says Independence Day like good music, good food, and a glass of wine in hand, and Jessie’s Grove is throwing exactly that kind of party. Bananafish is taking the stage for a full evening of live music, and food trucks will be rolling in to keep everyone fed.
This one has that easy holiday energy where you show up not knowing what time you will leave. Bring a blanket, settle in under the trees, and let the band do the rest. It is shaping up to be a great way to spend the 4th before fireworks light up the sky later that night.

Thursday nights downtown are still back and better than ever, with School Street turning into the place to be all summer long. We are talking 65 plus growers, makers, and food vendors lining the street with everything from fresh produce to handmade goods, plus live music keeping the energy up the whole evening.
Grab dinner from one of the food vendors, sip something local, and wander through downtown while the shops and tasting rooms stay open late just for market goers. It really is one of those nights where you run into everyone you know.

Appellation Lodi
Stars and Stripes Wellness Morning at Appellation Lodi | Saturday, July 4th | 9:00 am to 10:30 am
If you want to start the holiday off slow instead of jumping straight into the chaos, Appellation Lodi has the move. They are hosting a 90 minute sunrise yoga session to ease you into the Fourth, all gentle flow, all levels welcome, no pressure to be a yogi to show up and enjoy it.
Once class wraps, you get a mimosa waiting for you, because nothing says Independence Day quite like a toast after a good stretch. It is open to ages 14 and up, complimentary if you are staying at the hotel, and thirty dollars for visitors who just want to drop in for the morning. Honestly this feels like the perfect reset before the rest of the holiday gets loud.

Lodi Lake Bird Walk | Saturday, July 4th | 8:00 am to 11:00 am
If you and your kiddos love being outside and spotting critters, this one is for you. The San Joaquin Audubon Society is leading a free guided bird walk along the trails at Lodi Lake, and it is the kind of morning that gets the whole family moving before the holiday heat sets in.
Knowledgeable guides will be pointing out herons, egrets, woodpeckers, warblers, and if you are lucky, maybe even a bald eagle. No experience needed, this is great for first time birders and seasoned ones alike. Just bring comfortable shoes, water, binoculars if you have them, and a curious set of eyes.
It is free, it is family friendly, and it is a sweet way to start the Fourth before the rest of the day gets going.

A Lodi Tradition: 75 Years of Fireworks Over the Lake
Lodi Lake wasn’t always city owned. Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s the land around the lake belonged to private families, the Smiths and later Louis Mason, who opened it up to neighbors for swimming, boating, and picnics. In 1934 Mason sold his portion to the City of Lodi on the condition that it stay a public park forever, and Estella Smith followed with her land in 1937, which is really the moment Lodi Lake became ours; all of ours.
A few years later the city formed its Parks and Recreation Department in 1941, giving the park the structure it needed to grow into the community hub it is today. And then in 1951, the tradition we all show up for every summer officially began. The annual Fourth of July fireworks show at Lodi Lake started that year, which means this 4th of July marks 75 years of fireworks lighting up that same stretch of sky.
Three quarters of a century of pancake breakfasts, sticky popsicle hands, lawn chairs claimed hours early, and that one collective gasp when the first firework goes off. Generations of Lodi families have grown up on that lawn. Some of you reading this probably watched the show as a kid and now you’re the one chasing your own kids around the Kid Zone.
So this year when the sky lights up over the water, know you’re part of something that’s been going strong since 1951. That’s pretty special for a small town.
